The Most Important Buy-Sell Question Of All Time

Over many, many years of selling small businesses I came to realize why my job existed.

 

It exists because people (ever since when!) are reluctant to call other people and ask questions.

Is Recruiting Becoming Vulturism?

It’s deer season here in SW Ohio.

 

In the last two weeks my husband has killed two deer here on our property and has been the recipient of one more (for harvest) that the hunter didn’t want.

 

That means for nearly two weeks, on and off, my kitchen table has held the remains of deer parts that get dissected, trimmed and bagged for the freezer(s).

One of my “new” sourcers who had worked on three or four jobs sent me this email explaining to me why he did not think he could do telephone names sourcing:

How do you quantify a passive candidate?

I quantify response rates like this:



A Interested Now (Tell Me More)

B Not Interested Now - Maybe In The Future

C Not Interested Now (No Thanks)

D Can't Reach

E Contact Info or Candidate Info Wrong (It happens!)



I telephone potential candidates (when I do profiling) so my response rates are usually higher than response rates generated by email.

I may dial a potential candidate's number several times before I reach them…
