"Know thyself." ~ Socrates

While writing correspondence this morning to a friend and business associate, my propensity to tangent led me to a soul-baring reflection of what I perceived as my skills and my non-skills. As I elaborated, it came to me that this might be a pretty good exercise for everyone, so to-wit:

Take that proverbial legal pad and draw a line down the center. List what your Best Attributes are and what your Worst Attributes are. You’re the only one seeing… Continue

Sourcers: Practice Your Approach!

I get questions all the time, "What do I do WHEN…?" or "What do I do IF…?" or "What happens, FOR INSTANCE…"

STOP with all the negative thinking! STOP expecting defeat at the hands of equal beings. Use the materials you have all around you and STOP living in fear and doubt - learn to express yourself positively.

If I had ONE PIECE of advice I'd like to package in a box with a pretty bow it would be this:

Sourcing Training – Onsite Story

“...but they just give you the names – I don’t understand it,” he marveled as he looked wonderingly from me to the forty names on the screen and back again at me. “They wouldn’t do that for me!” he assuredly exclaimed, shaking his head back and forth.

“Why wouldn’t they?” I asked, turning in my chair and facing him across the small desk, from where he was watching me in action on the second day of the training seminar… Continue

Memorial Sourcing

Memorial Day approaches and we sourcers all know what that means – one of our better sourcing opportunities draws near! Customers “in the know” understand that getting their “holiday orders” in early will assure a bountiful harvest of names when they themselves return to work after the festivities. They understand that as summer approaches… Continue

MagicMethod Classroom Chat Log Thursday, May 15, 2008

Maureen,

Good afternoon, I was unable to attend the phone sourcing chat today but I had used your tip from Tuesday and it has been great! (the tip of repeating the operator’s name and then saying my name and then “May I please speak with Mr. Smith?”) I have gotten past gatekeepers much more easily now and have had my name repeated back to me: “Please hold one minute Emily,” - it made me laugh. Thank you for all of your help and I'm looking…

The Devil Is In the Details Part I
